Nick Williams

With a strong love for singing and acting, Nick Williams enrolled into the theater program while going to the University of Southern California. Though he loved the theater, he has always had a great desire to learn to dance. When a friend told him about a swing dancing class about to open up on campus, Nick jumped at the chance to finally learn some real dancing. With his first lesson he could tell that this meant more to him than just some new hobby. He felt an amazing sense of thrill and creativity with every step, a feeling that he had been searching for and embraced.
He then began to take dance classes with local instructors and going out to every dance club or event he could find. Putting all of his attention and energy towards truly understanding the dance, which was fast becoming more of an obsession. Nick sought out the history of the dance and culture, himself. He felt that there was more to swing dancing then just classes and clubs. Spending an untold amount of hours on the discovery and preservation of dance treasures has been a life long journey for him. Befriending many of the original jitterbugs, Nick was taken under their wing and taught more about dancing than he could ever have hoped for. Nick successfully embodies the spirit of the original jitterbugers through his precision, lightness, musicality and dynamic energy.
Nick’s desire for authenticity, combined with his passion for dance evolution has led Nick to several championships in his esteemed career such as: US Open Swing Dance Championships, National Jitterbug Championships, International Lindy Hop Championships, Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, American Classic Balboa Championships, the World Lindy Hop Champion of 2005, and in 2004 being recognized by the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame.
Nick was invited by the Fox producers to be a featured choreographer and create a lindy hop routine on the hit television show “So You Think You Can Dance.” And a featured part in the Katy Perry music video “Thinking of You.”
As an instructor, he is known for his ability to break down movements and technique to create a fun and light-hearted learning environment. But as a person and a true lover of this American art form, finding his own voice in the dances and to be able to travel the world doing what he loves is a dream come true. Constantly searching for ways to push himself and the dance to new and amazing heights will forever be at the core of Nick as a person and will continue to inspire him to learn, teach, and grow.
